The Construction (Design and Management) [CDM] Regulations 2007 represent a step change in construction health and safety legislation. It brings the CDM 1994 Regulations and the Construction (Health & Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1996 into a single regulatory package providing a clear focus on management, communication, co-operation and competence within the project team. The ability to understand the CDM Regulations and their implications effectively is an essential skill needed in the construction industry. This programme has been specifically designed to give delegates the opportunity to learn, refresh and consolidate them.
CDM 2007 seeks to clarify and simplify the regulations; making it easier for duty holders to know what is expected of them. It focuses on active management and planning with a reduction in bureaucracy, to:
- Simplify the assessment of organisations competence,
- Strengthen co-ordination and co-operation between duty holders, particularly designers and contractors, and
- Create a culture that can accommodate the wide range of contractual arrangements.
Course Aims and Objectives:
This course has been designed to provide a clear and concise overview of CDM 2007 and the Approved Code of Practice. It will provide delegates who have a limited knowledge of CDM Regulations in the construction industry with a firm grounding in the development and application of CDM 2007.
Course Outline:
- The Legislation
- The relationships between the main parties: The Client; The Co-ordinator; The Designers; The Principal Contractor and Contractors
- Course Review and Summary
- Question and Answers
Delivery Methodology:
This one-day course is highly interactive and includes presentations, notes, delegate discussion and a workshop, a feedback session and end-of-course examination to ensure effective learning outcomes.
Benefits Perceived by attendees:
At the end of the course each delegate should understand the need for and the application of the CDM Regulations. They should appreciate the framework of the Regulations and the interfaces between the key parties and understand the duties and responsibilities of the Client, Co-ordinator, Designers, Principal Contractor and Contractors.
Intended for:
Clients, project managers, designers, principal contractors and contractors who require an overview of CDM 2007 and the Approved Code of Practice. It is also an ideal introduction to CDM 2007 for senior managers who need to know the corporate responsibilities but will not be involved in specific projects.
