Portable Appliance Testing (PAT testing) is the regular safety checking of any electrical equipment required to be undertaken on any appliance in a UK workplace. The legislation does not extend to private residential premises, but commercial residences are required to check electrical appliances regularly for safe use. PAT testing is normally undertaken by an external company. To be qualified to undertake PAT testing you will be required to complete this course.

PAT testing must be undertaken regularly by employers as part of their health and safety obligation to employees. These tests must be completed on a regular basis depending on the appliance and the environment it was being used in. Appliances need to be tested at least once a year with other having a longer turnaround. Their main purpose is to ensure that electrical equipment and appliances are safe for use. This could involve using equipment or conducting a visual inspection of the appliance.

This course can be undertaken by any a professional in the commercial or residential environment. In a business environment, health and safety legislation dictates that all electrical equipment must undergo regular testing to be suitable for commercial use.

Who Should Attend

There are no set formal requirements for undertaking this qualification. Anybody responsible for electrical equipment within a premises or individuals with testing responsibilities can undertake this course. The course is ideal for landlords and maintenance staff branching out into PAT testing to keep costs of running their business down.

  2. Appliance Weights – working with large appliances
  3. Basic SI Units – and how to work with them
  4. Practical Test – Revision and preparation for a practical PAT testing exam
  5. Software Options – The kinds of software available for testers to use to easily manage their completed tests and organisations.
