While environmental legislation now impacts on all organisations and business, many public and private sectors employees have had limited experience in environmental regulation. Effective environmental management ensures not only compliance with the current environmental requirements but also saves money and identifies new marketing opportunities.
The course is designed for individuals to gain an understanding of environmental policy and regulations and how management systems play a key role in ensuring compliance with the environmental requirements, satisfy supply chain and customer pressure and identify new marketing opportunities.
Part 1: An Introduction to Environmental Management
Part 1 of the course considers European and Government policy for combating environmental issues such as climate change and sustainability. It will show how these policies have produce legislation that impacts every organisation and business. Supply chain pressure and customer demand for ‘green’ products and ‘green’ procurement will be explained. Case studies will demonstrate how an understanding of environmental policy and regulation, together with the adoption of good management practice can turn potential business threats into new marketing opportunities.
Part 2: Environmental Management in Practice
Part 2 will look at company environmental policy, environmental management systems (EMS) and their implementation. It will show how such systems ensure compliance with environmental legislation and improve environmental performance, year on year. It will be demonstrated with case studies that the installation of an appropriate EMS will gain an organisation or business accredited environmental credentials, save money and allow it to compete successfully in the expanding ‘green procurement’ and ‘eco-friendly’ marketplace.
