CITB Funding for 2026-27: What You Need to Know!

Construction is entering a crucial period of growth, with the UK Government committing over £600 million to tackle skills shortages and train up to 60,000 new workers. In response, CITB has announced important updates to its Employer Networks funding and a brand‑new Large Employer Fund, both launching in April 2026.
These changes are designed to ensure sustainable, fair access to training support across the whole sector and they present valuable opportunities for employers looking to upskill their workforce.
🔧 Changes to Employer Networks Funding (Micro – Medium Employers)
From April 2026, employers with 1-249 employees will continue to access Employer Networks, with training available at 50% match funding or a fixed contribution for health & safety courses.
CITB has confirmed an £11.5 million budget for Employer Networks in 2026-27, with caps set by employer size:
| Employer Size | 2026-27 Funding Cap | Average Claim 2025-26 |
|---|---|---|
| Micro (1–9) | £1,500 | £1,282 |
| Small (10–49) | £2,000 | £2,180 |
| Medium (50–249) | £4,500 | £5,195 |
This structure aims to support as many businesses as possible while maintaining long‑term sustainability.
🏗️ New Large Employer Fund (250+ Employees)
Large employers will no longer access Employer Networks. Instead, CITB is introducing a dedicated Large Employer Fund for 2026-27.
Key details:
- £18,000 available per large employer
- Can be used on any in‑scope training
- Paid on a training plan or evidence of completed training
- Designed as an interim fund while CITB develops the next phase of support
This gives large organisations greater flexibility to plan and invest in workforce development.
🎓 Additional CITB Support Still Available
Alongside these changes, employers can continue to access:
- Short Course Grants (including plant, scaffolding, and exempted standards)
- Apprenticeship Grants
- Travel to Train
- Qualification Grants
- Industry Impact Fund
CITB’s wider work, competence frameworks, pathways, Sector Plans, NCC training, and careers initiatives through Go Construct, also continues unchanged. Local NEST teams and advisers remain available to help employers identify the best training routes.
